With school starting back up next month (Sept. 4), students enrolled in SD27’s schools only have 10 days left to get the most out of their summer.

So the Free Press decided to go around and ask some students if they were enjoying their summer more than the Free Press staff (they were), and if they were excited to start school again (most weren’t).

“Lots of camping and lots of fishing and going on lots of boats,” was Emilie Mason’s answer when asked what she did all summer.

Mason is starting Grade 3 at the 108 Elementary School and is excited to return to school, mostly because of math which she finds super exciting.

Her favourite part of summer was going to the mud bogs with her stepdad and watching him race in his truck on the track.

Sometime during the last ten days of summer, she will be going to the waterslides with her friend Myah Forsyth.

Going into Grade 4 at the 100 Mile Elementary School, Forsyth is also excited for math and gym.

She said she will probably spend most of her days hanging out with friends or playing her video games at home. Maybe her parents will let the latter slide, after all, she also spent most of her summer outside swimming, fishing and shopping.

“I found a clam and caught five fish,” she said, explaining her two-week trip to the Okanagan Falls to visit her father.

Conner and Cory Bougie have a busy schedule for their last ten dog days.

“We’re going to a wedding, camping and we keep going to the [Centennial] park, like usually every day,” said Conner.

Conner has never been to a wedding, so he’s most excited for that. He will be joining Forsyth in Grade 4 at 100 Mile Elementary but wasn’t excited to hit the math books or school for that matter.

Cory, Conner’s older brother, will be attending his first year of high school at Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School (PSO).

He spent most of his days in the northern hemisphere’s warmest season dirt biking and hanging out with his friends.

Unlike his younger brother, he’s looking more forward to spending his time camping at Mahood Lake.

“We have to get there by boat,” he explains. “Lots of swimming, lots of skipping rocks on the beach and building things.”

He said the thing he was most excited about going back to school was the weekends.
