The 100 Mile House Community Band is getting ready to sound their horns once again this September.
“We’re fairly eclectic in our musical tastes. We do some jazz, like the old big band music and we also play some light classics and classical music as well as some contemporary,” said the band’s conductor, Dave Hooper. “We’re, at the moment, trying to recruit more people into it.”
The band, which plays at least one public performance a year and is involved in the Festival of the Arts, currently have 13 members and are looking to expand its membership base. Prospective members of all ages and experience are welcomed, says Hooper.

“We’re looking for a variety of instruments, brass particularly. There’s a lot of people who have played the instruments earlier in life like we’re not worried about how old anybody is or how young for that matter. We do have quite a range of ages,” he said. ” If they need any help from a teaching point of view we can give them lessons.”
Hooper went on to say the band is looking to add more jazzy tunes to their repertoire but he personally would like to try out Gustav Holst’s Second Suite in F for Military Band. He admitted it would be a long-term project due to its interesting composition though.
In addition to the Festival of the Arts, the band usually puts on some programs during Christmas time.
Rehearsal starts on Sep. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Christ the King Lutheran Church on Horse Lake Road and will continue every Tuesday.
