The second annual Young Nations all-native hockey tournament took place in Lac la Hache last weekend, featuring seven teams from Central British Columbia.

The double knockout event, held at the Rolf Zeis Arena, saw the Cariboo Canucks from Williams Lake go unbeaten to win the tournament.

The Stoney T-birds from the Stoney native community at Alkali Lake finished second and the Williams Lake Native Hawks were third.

Canim Lake Hun City was the only local team and they placed fourth.

Assistant organizer Fredrick Johnson says the tournament is held mainly to bring First Nations communities together and provide a good learning experience for the younger players.

"The coaches and other players help them out and build their confidence."

The tournament included players of all ages, ranging from the youngest at 16 years to the oldest at 62.
