Our team, coaches and families all say it: this couldn’t be done without our volunteers,” says Sandy Craig, volunteer co-ordinator for the 100 Mile House Wranglers Junior B Hockey Club and a member of the board of directors for two years.

The goal of the Wranglers’ organization is to be recognized as a vehicle that assists as many players as possible attain their junior hockey goals and beyond.

Craig notes that as a volunteer with the team, it’s incredibly satisfying to watch that happen.

It’s very positive and encouraging as a volunteer to see both personal growth and skill development in the players. You get to see them growing into adulthood, learning responsibility, accountability, self-confidence and leadership. The players are natural mentors for younger children and give back so much to the community.”

Team activities in the community, include the annual Teddy Bear Toss, reading buddy time and gym time at 100 Mile House Elementary School, providing physical labour for tasks and projects around the community and much more.

They also host a Spring Prospect Camp that starts on April 22.

Craig adds being a volunteer with the Wranglers has the added benefit of countless social opportunities. “This is a great way to build new friendships.

You know that saying, ‘It takes a community to raise a child?’ Well, it takes volunteers to embrace a team.”
