Skaters have 'blast' at 2014 year-end exhibition

Local figure skating club has spring camp coming up

Local figure skaters performed different jumps, spins and turns for family and fans at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre recently.

The 100 Mile & District Figure Skating Club's 2014 year-end exhibition featured a variety of routines from beginners in the CanSkate program, and more advanced girls from the STARSkate program.

Club president Nanci Lundquist says the event was a bonding experience for team members, and a way to show off what they learned this year.

“There were quite a few people watching, which was really good. A lot of families came out.

“It was a really good experience. The kids had a blast, which is all that really matters.”

The show saw team manoeuvres, a team relay, a pre-CanSkate exhibition, and performances by Courtney Dolinski, Mikayla Julseth, Alyssa Lindberg, Emma Giroday, Megan Glen, Kathrin Ricketts, Jordyn Karl and Keely Pacheco.

Six figure skaters from 100 Mile House were in Penticton on Feb. 14-16 to compete in the 2014 Okanagan Region Championships, where Karl won a gold medal, and Julseth and Pacheco won silvers.

Next up is a spring camp running between March 24 and April 17 at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre.

We have a lot of girls coming from Williams Lake, Lundquist explains.

“We're kind of integrating the two clubs.... It's a really good experience having a completely different set of kids out there.”
