Players wanted for Ladies fastball league

Deadline for registration April 27, practices underway

If Lorna Ross has her way, women’s fastball is going to return to 100 Mile House after a 15-year absence.

Ross says she hopes the Ladies Fastball League will hit a home run at Lumberman’s Park next to the arena, with games starting in the second week of May.

She also hopes there will be enough ball players to have at least four teams.

“We may have more because there are people who are riding the fence and haven’t played for years, or they’ve never played fastball but have played slo-pitch.”

Ross says they will be sharing the two diamonds next to the arena with men’s fastball, minor softball and slo-pitch leagues.

They are currently running through drills and practices on Thursdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. Ladies (14 years and older) can show up for practices/games – they need gloves and shoes; and those with equipment are asked to bring it along. Players under 16 years need to have parental consent.

For more information, e-mail Ross at lornaR03@gmail.com.

They have a registration deadline of April 27. Registration forms are available at Borgos’ Sport Shack, Gourmet Burger Revolution, or they can be downloaded from the Facebook site.

There is a $60 registration fee and Ross recommends people get a Softball BC lifetime membership, which costs $10 and provides a comprehensive insurance program.

“Once we get the registration done, we’re going to see how many players we have and divvy up the teams because some people have played and others haven’t, so we’re going to make it even and fun for everyone.”
