Men's Fastball regular season comes to a close

Strong competition expected as semifinal playoffs begin

The final regular season game of the 100 Mile House Men's Fastball League ended on July 7 with Exeter Sporting Goods defeating 100 Mile 'N Hour U16 fastball team 10-8.

Now, the playoff series have begun with the first semifinals series on July 12, which will lead into finals on July 18.

Men's Fastball president Rob Sanford says he was happy with the season despite a little rain getting in the way from time to time.

We had quite a few rain-outs, but all-in-all it was good. The new lights and improved fields made up for that.”

Sanford says the playoffs are set to have some good fastball action.

There should be some good fastball. All the teams are fairly equal. Also the U16 boys just won the provincials, so they've really proved themselves in this league.

Anyone could win. That's what makes our league so great.”

The final standings for the regular season are as follows:

Jakes Pub took first place in the league championship with 17 points. Sanford & Dillman came in second with 16 points. Shuswap Defenders took third place with 13 points.

100 Mile N' Hour U16 finished fourth with eight points, while Exeter Sporting Goods came in fifth place with six points.

The first playoff game began on July 12 at 6 p.m. with Jakes against Sanford.

The game ended with Jakes losing to Sanford, 7-3.

Jakes will now take on Exeter while Sanford will play the winner of the 100 Mile 'N Hour versus Shuswap.

The second game between Shuswap against 100 Mile 'N Hour was cancelled due to rain. The two teams will play today (July 14).

The winner from the that game will play against Sanford the first quarter final game.

The same process will be repeated for the second playoff series.

The top two teams will compete in a best-of-three series beginning on July 18 with games on July 19, and if necessary, July 21.
