Sept. 24 saw Marmot Ridge Golf Course host the first of what it hopes will be an annual Best Ball Tournament.

Unseasonably warm weather and persistent wind defined the day, tournament co-ordinator Caroline Jeffrey says, adding everyone enjoyed a great afternoon of golf "despite the breeze."

The no-pressure, fun event drew 32 golfers for a game where team members played their ball from the location of the best overall shot.

The team of Vern Jeffrey and his son, Lynden Jeffrey, Lee Bromely and Todd Poirier were the low-gross winners with a score of 30, which was two under par.

Vern was also a long drive winner, as was Cecile Pratt. Closest-to-the-pin prizes went to Phil Roux, Harvey Knapp and Joan Law.

The day wrapped up with a barbecue on the deck and prizes.

Marmot Ridge will be trying something new on Oct. 15, with a night golf tournament.

The game will be played at night with glow-in-the dark balls and everyone is encouraged to wear their pajamas.

"It's lots of fun," Caroline says, adding she has been involved with night golf in the past and it was a huge hit.
