Local equestrians shine at Rising Stars Dressage Show

Misty Pines Pony Club member Andrea Dobbs was a big winner at the Rising Stars Youth Dressage Show at Chilliwack Heritage Park, Aug. 26-28.

Riding her young Hanoverian gelding, Presario, she took the Bronze Hack Championship in the 16-21 age division and the Overall Champion in the entire bronze level show.

Kennedy Nelson, who also rides with Misty Pines, won an award in the International Team division after having learned to canter just four days before the show.

Her sister, Mackenzie Nelson, was competing for the first time in First Level and stood in the Reserve Champion position after her first two tests. However, she wasn't able to hang on to that lead through the rest of the show.

Tristy Allwood, who is a member of the 100 Mile & District Outriders Club, earned a fifth- and two sixth-place finishes at the high-calibre show, which attracted close to 85 entries from Canada and the United States. All three girls competed in the 13-15 year age category.

Misty Pines coach Carolyn Dobbs says all of the local riders shone in the competition ring.

"They just blew me away. They were all very sportsmanlike as well, and we got lots of comments from other people on how helpful they were."
