Dog obedience is a good thing

The 100 Mile House Dog Club is hosting an open house at the old Stan Halcro Arena on Wrangler Way on Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will be demonstrations of obedience and agility dogs.

Everyone is welcome to come down and see what the club members do – only club member dogs will be allowed in the arena.

The experienced members will assist with people with the training of their dogs, whether it be obedience, agility or rally.

Obedience trials start with the novice class and then go onto open class and then utility class. The dogs must have three qualifying scores in all of the classes to obtain that title.

When, and if, a dog passes all thee classes it earns the title of "obedience trial champion."

The members and their dogs have won a number of titles.

Becky Citra and Penny, Pat Schwartz and Red, and Patricia Kingshott and Molly have achieved novice titles.

Tara Schiller and Ali, Dave Racine and Dylan, Bob Allen and Cassie, and Peter Reid and King are Obedience Trial Champions.

Racine and Dylan also have Master Hunter titles.

Brenda Witt and her agility dogs have competed at a national level and have many national titles.

So, everyone is invited to check out the trainers and their dog this Saturday (Oct. 1).
