Raising money to benefit the community took on a fun twist for the 100 Mile House Royal Canadian Legion Branch 260 recently when it hosted a golf tournament at Marmot Ridge.

The nine-hole tourney attracted 40 registrants and netted funds for the Legion, which will be dispersed among local clubs and organizations within the coming months.

Legion member Jack Drake helped to co-ordinate the event and says it's the largest turnout the Legion has ever had, but everyone got prizes.

"We were very happy with it and happy with the results. The weather was good and everyone seemed to have a good time."

Kim Torgerson was the women's low-gross winner with a score of 44, and her husband, Mel Torgerson shared the men's low-gross honours with Jamie Crellin with scores of 38.

Ladies' long drive went to Leena Lautrup and Brett Tassell won men's long drive. Closest-to-the-pin prizes went to Joan Law and Jack Rausch, and the ninth-hole putting contest winner was Bruce Madu who pocketed $50.

The tournament wrapped up with a pork barbecue at Marmot Ridge Golf Course.
