Knight rink blows off cobwebs to win at Williams Lake bonspiel

The Rick Knight rink from 100 Mile House might have been a little rusty, but that didn't prevent them from winning the "B" event at the Williams Lake Curling Club annual Men's and Ladies' open on Feb 18-20.

The bonspiel attracted 20 ladies' teams and 26 men's teams from McBride, Kamloops, 100 Mile House and Quesnel. Knight (lead) teamed up with Rod Schneider (second), Gord Smith (third) and Brian Considine (skip) to work their way to a win in the final over the Alex Coffey rink from Quesnel. The victory might not have been so spectacular if it had not been for the fact that neither Knight or Smith had curled in 20 years prior to the bonspiel. "The team needed a player, so I put my shoes back on," says Knight. "I'm going to keep it up now." They beat the Ed Ney Rink from 100 Mile House earlier in the semi final. Other 100 Mile House teams at the bonspiel were the Marg Folk rink who finished second in the "A" event, Bill Todhunter, who took fourth in the "A" event, and Hollis Ney and Deanna Zelke, who did not place.
