The South Cariboo Rhythmic Gymnastics (SCRG) sent 39 gymnasts to the 2016 BC Gymnaestrada in Richmond on May 7-8.
The non-competitive event held many workshops on May 7, including clowning, juggling, modern ballet, pyramid building and arco yoga.
On May 8, more than 600 gymnasts participated in a combined event.
The SCRG “Dancing Jewels” team performed the longest routine – 11 minutes long and included three songs. The routine involved many apparatuses, including ropes, ribbons, stick horses, parachutes, balls and bars.
The “Dancing Jewels” demonstrated flexibility, strength and team building, says SCRG head coach Sang-Hee Robinson.
“All of my girls have worked hard and individually challenged their skill levels. They have worked throughout the year to build themselves up to this event.
Robinson says she is looking forward to the gymnasts showing all they have learned at the year-end event.
The year-end event will be held at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre on May 27. The door fee will be $5 per person, and the doors opening at 5 p.m. with the performance beginning at 6 p.m.
Some of the routines the team will be performing have not been seen by the public.
This will mark the end of the gymnastic teams season, which began in September 2015.
The team is working towards going to the Canadian National Gymnaestrada in 2018.
