Boys ball team narrowly misses Games bronze

100 Mile House's Moore brothers enjoy their BC Summer Games experience

Softball player Trevor Moore didn't think anything could top his recent experience of competing in provincial championships, but a trip to the Surrey 2012 BC Summer Games on July 19-22, changed all of that.

He and his brother, Brandon Moore, both played ball for the Summer Games Cariboo-North East team and helped take them to the bronze-medal game.

The U14 squad got off to a good start in the preliminaries with a couple of back-to-back victories and a first-place standing in the round robin.

"We were feeling really confident when we went to the semis with Clearwater (Thompson-Okanagan)," says Brandon.

The game got off to a slow start and they were down by six runs when determination kicked in.

"Everyone decided they wanted to win and started to play smarter ball."

It wasn't enough to completely turn it around, but Cariboo narrowed the gap to lose by just two runs and advance to the bronze-medal game against Fraser Valley. That hard-fought game also ended in a loss and left Cariboo in fourth place.

The highlight of the Games for Trevor was getting on base almost every time he went to bat, and just being there.

"Summer Games were way better than provincials. Our team did good, pitching, catching and hitting."

Brandon was pretty excited about hitting a triple, which is something that doesn't happen a lot for him.

"We were up against some really strong competition and I think it's made me a better ballplayer."
