Big draw for Ladies Bonspiel

56th Annual Ladies Bonspiel set to rock 100 Mile House

The 100 Mile Curling Club's upcoming annual Ladies Bonspiel is promising to be one of the best yet in its over 50 year history with a colourful party theme and a lot of teams coming to join the fun.

The 56th annual event will see at least 16 teams descend on 100 Mile House, March 6-8.

The theme this year is “New Orleans Masquerade Ball”, with a dance rocking the Wick 'n Roll Lounge upstairs at the 100 Mile Curling Club on March 7.

The bonspiel has the distinction of being the longest running female sporting event in the South Cariboo, says club spokesperson Wayne Venos.

“This gives our curling ladies a sense of pride,” he adds. “There are already ladies signed up from Quesnel, Williams Lake, Clearwater, Kamloops, Ashcroft, and many from Forest Grove, Interlakes and of course, 100 Mile.”

The public is invited to drop in and watch the curling all weekend free of charge. There is viewing for all ages downstairs in the club's recently refurbished seating area.

“This is a great spot to hear the laughter and merriment that goes on out on the ice,” Venos says. “Viewing is tremendous upstairs in the lounge, but is for adults only.”

The curling starts at 6 p.m. on March 6.

The dance on March 7 is a great opportunity to drop in and see what curling is all about, meet some great curlers, and have a great time, Venos adds.

Finals start at 1 p.m. on March 8.
