The best of the best from every local school came out to compete at the Inter-School Track & Field Meet at 100 Mile House Elementary School (100) on June 12.
While the weather changed on a dime from sun to heavy rain back to sun, the athletic skill on the field was still incredible to watch.
Unfortunately, the results for 11-year-old girls is not available other than Vanessa Betschart who took first place in 100- and 200-metre sprints, long jump, high jump and triple jump.
The top athletic students from 100, Horse Lake Elementary School (HL), Mile 108 Elementary School (108), Forest Grove Elementary School (FG), Eliza Archie Memorial School (EAMS), Lac la Hache Elementary School (LLH), and Bridge Lake Elementary School (BL) competed in several distance running, jumping and throwing events.
Kai Flett from 108 broke two school records. The first in 200 metre with a time of 27.69 seconds and 800 metre in 2:44 minutes.
Even though some students stood on the sidelines shivering from the rain, it didn't stop them from cheering for the running events. Often students would run alongside their fellow student competing in the event, cheering them on.
Some students performed exceptionally well like Noah Geerts (100) for 12-year-old boys. Geerts was keeping pace with Ryan Vincenz (HL) right up until the last half of the final lap of the 800 metre.
All of a sudden, Geerts blazed ahead of Vincenz to take a decisive victory.
Each age category had a mix of athletes with some students sweeping categories, including Trey Pacheco, 108, 10-year-old boys, and Betschart, HL, 11-year-old girls.
