The 100 Mile Snowmobile Club needs help.
As an active club since the 1960s, club president Alan Reichardt says they could not have gotten this far without the help of many dedicated volunteers.
Over the years, the local snowmobile club has been responsible for many events, including snow cross, snow drags, family fun rides and the list goes on – none of this could take place without volunteer help, he adds.
"We are at a point now, where there is a core group of individuals who give up their time so local residents have a place to ride their snowmobiles and enjoy what our area has to offer. This group cannot do it all.
"We need more people, who share the same passion for this sport, to join our group so our future generations will have the same enjoyment we have.
"We are requesting the community comes together for this cause and get involved."
Reichardt notes snowmobilers now have mandatory registration for their sleds, or face a fine or even impoundment of their snowmobiles.
"You are also required to carry liability insurance on your machine when using public land – riding on unmaintained roads, crossing highways, or using the many designated trails in our region.
"We need the help of people just like you to educate the snowmobiling public and help us to maintain the beautiful trails we currently have."
If folks purchase memberships to the 100 Mile Snowmobile Club, Reichardt says they will receive access to all of the club trails; get a discount on insurance; have access to the clubhouse facility; and have a say when it comes to trail maintenance, grooming, functions and all other club business.
He adds the club will be offering rider's clinics for those who are new to the sport, and members are welcome to come on the many guided trail rides the club has during the winter.
"We have been working hard for many years with government officials to develop our trail system, which we maintained and groom.
"We currently have club members who groom and maintain the local trails. We groom the trail from our clubhouse to Helena Lake as well as our circle tour near Valentine Lake, but we cannot do this without the help of club members."
The club membership fees have not change during the past three years and will remain the same for the 2016/17 season.
They are $80 for a single, $100 for a couple, and $120 for a family of four (children under the age of 16 that live in your residence) and $20 for any additional family members. There is a $20 membership fee for a non-rider. Memberships are available from all snowmobile dealers.
"I look forward to seeing people at our annual general meeting and election of officers at our clubhouse facility located at 900 Ainsworth Rd. on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m."
