The national SPCA Cupcake Day fundraiser was once again a success for the 100 Mile House & District branch.

Branch manager Randi Dewhirst says the 4th annual fundraiser saw local volunteers baking up a storm and selling more than 75 dozen colourfully iced and decorated cupcakes.

"We had an overwhelming response."

The final donations were still coming in and the tally being counted at press time, but will be close to $1,250, she adds.

"It's a national day for the SPCAs and humane societies across Canada," she explains. "So, whether a cat's hungry in Newfoundland and needs care, or here, it's helped."

Dewhirst once again was busily visiting businesses all over 100 Mile House selling cupcakes while other volunteers were set up in the Cariboo Mall.

"I want to thank the South Cariboo Lionesses for all of their hard work, and also give our big thank-you to Pharmasave for providing the tables, the chairs and the tablecloths."

She also greatly appreciates her "right-hand gal," branch foster parent co-ordinator Shirley Cucksey, he explains.

"I want to thank the South Cariboo community from the bottom of my heart."

Some folks gave generous donations without even taking any cupcakes, she adds.
