Campfire warning

Make campfires are cold to the touch before leaving the site

The Labour Day long weekend will be the last fling of the summer for many Cariboo residents and out-of-area residents who will travel to the backcountry for one last camping trip.

Despite the recent cool and we days, Cariboo Fire Centre (CFC)fire information officer Natasha Broznitsky says folks should still be careful with their campfires.

The fire danger rating is currently low to moderate in most of the CFC except for pockets of high fire danger rating in the Alexis Creek and Riske Creek areas, she explains.

A map of the current fire danger rating, as well as information on current wild fire activity and open fire restrictions across the province, can be found at bcwildfire.ca.

Broznitsky urges members of the public that if they see any wildfires, abandoned camp fire or open burning violation to call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on their cell phones.
