January 13, 1934 - October 7, 2023

Walter Janzen passed away at the Oxford Senior Care Home on Saturday October 7, 2023 at the age of 89. He was born to Christian parents John & Helene Janzen on January 13, 1934 in Rosthern Saskatchewan.

He has 4 sisters, Edna, Selma, Gladys, and Freda. Walter's early years growing up were in rural farming areas of Saskatchewan. As a young boy he enjoyed being outdoors, riding horses and spending time with his dad helping on the farm. He also looked forward to opportunities when he could visit aunts, uncles and grandparents. Eventually though, the family looked for better opportunities for a better life. So in 1946 Walter's family moved to B.C. when he was 12 years old. After a short stay with relatives, his family found their own place to live on the outskirts of Yarrow.

Walter was not interested in formal education so at the age of 13 he quit school and went to work at the hop yards. Other jobs included farming, house movers, dump truck driving, building houses and lumber sales.

Walter married Elly Loewen on June 13, 1954. They had two sons and a daughter. Much time and many memories were made in the Cariboo at Sheridan Lake. Walter and Elly loved to travel and saw many places around the world and had many exciting adventures. They also met interesting people and made new friends along the way.

Walter will be lovingly remembered by his son Gerald (Marlene), and their children Erin (Jerome), Ben, Jack, Luke; Brad (Amy), Eden, Duke, Everly; Tyler (Alli), his son Glenn (Linda) and their children Nicole (Dave), Ryleigh, McKenna; Jamie (Josh), Abigale; Scott; his daughter Laura (Dan) and their children Andrea and Nick. Two additional great-grandchildren are expected to join the family in the new year.
