In Loving Memory ~
On 14 September 2023, Patricia Mina Shirley Anne (Pat) Kent (Nee Wainwright), 87 years of age and long-time resident at Green Lake, B.C., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, in the Fischer Place ongoing care facility, 100 Mile House from age-related health complications.
Pat was a loving and devoted wife since meeting her sweetheart and the love of her life, Bill, on grad night. Together, as a well-oiled team, they raised the four children whom she heroically produced in four short years. Together, they instilled the values and lessons which allowed their children and later grandchildren to become successful and happy adults.
She expertly stretched their meagre family food budget always producing healthy, nutritious meals and often filled her house with the delicious smells of freshly baked bread and baking she expertly made from scratch.
The artistic talents she inherited from her mother were seen in seasonal window drawings, her beautiful penmanship and the clothing she made for her young family; often dressing them in matching outfits for Sunday school.
A believer in ongoing education, she earned a degree, as an honor student, while juggling a busy family and work demands. She had a long and very successful teaching career, initially with young children and later after an extended break, taken to give her children the best, loving starts in life, as an English as a Second language teacher and curriculum developer where her hard work and innovations made significant contributions to program development and curriculum.
She loved to sing and possessed a beautiful voice which was very much in demand. Following retirement she kept busy sewing applications on shirts and making jams and jellies which she sold at craft sales and through local shops.
She loved to travel, spending many years "snowbirding" in the southern states, and seeing the world, usually from the vantage of luxury cruise ships. The making of quilts became a passion and she amassed a huge inventory of fabric producing hundreds of beautiful quilts most of which she gave to family, friends and charity. Throughout her life, Pat enjoyed square dancing, singing, canoeing, fishing, and the great outdoors.
Pat was predeceased by Bill, the love of her life, to whom she was married for over 65 years, and is survived by her four children; Jack (Nora) Bonnie (Sue), Chris and Scott (Lisa), nine Grand children: David (Shannon), Lisa (John Woodman), Kelly (Keifer McCarthy), Danielle, Justin (Lindsey Butterworth), Brittany (James Kalsek), Sabian, Aryan and Adanna, and five Great Grandchildren; Colby, Madison, Lily, Isaac and Isabella.
Pat will be deeply missed by her family and friends. At her request, there will be no formal departure ceremony. Family has and will come together to celebrate the life of this exceptional person who touched so many.
Condolences and well wishes may be passed to Pat's family through her daughter Bonnie by email at kentsbp@gmail.com.
