Our world and family lost a good man when our husband, father, brother and friend, Mike Jothen suddenly passed away on January 28, 2023, at 76. A giving man, Mike never took for himself, and never complained when life presented him with challenges.
Mike is survived by Kathleen, wife of 55 years, children Lisa Jothen Frey (Stephen and Connor) and Corinna Jothen Harrison (John and Alaura), his sister Gina Hughes (Skip and Dawn), and brother Kerry (Kelly, Christine, and Steve). He is predeceased by his parents Queenie and Arthur Jothen and his nephew Lorne Hughes.
Mike was born in Winnipeg on April 19, 1946, and raised in Whalley, B.C. After graduating from high school and marrying Kathy on July 8, 1967, they moved briefly to Langley. Mike and his family then moved to 100 Mile House in 1979 and moved to Williams Lake in 2016. He had a long career in truck and automotive painting (e.g. Sunrise Ford) and was known for his work ethic and pride in his craft.
Mike had a wicked sense of humour and a big heart, never taking himself too seriously, and being a modest man. Mike always did everything he could to help Lisa and Corinna to encourage them to grow and find happiness. As a son, Mike loved his parents very much and gave them much love and support. They loved and were proud of Mike and his family.
Mike was the best big brother. He was always kind to Kerry and showed him how to play baseball and throw a football and introduced him to many other sports. He took Kerry to Canuck games in the old Forum and Mounties games at Nat Bailey. As a brother to Gina, she loved Mike's infectious smile, no matter what he faced, and he delighted in simple pleasures like receiving homemade cookies from her.
There will be no service and Mike wished to be cremated. May he rest in peace with his parents and may we all learn from Mike's giving and uncomplaining nature.
