September 26, 1939 - August 11, 2018
Joan passed away peacefully on August 11, 2018 at the age of 78 years.

Joan was born in Claresholm, Alberta on September 26, 1939 to Mona and Nels Ostero. She was the oldest child, being raised with her siblings Karen, Ellen, and Tom. From 1960-1967 she worked and took classes in Saskatoon and Vancouver. She enjoyed her time at Quaker Mills, CN, UBC, VGH, BCIT, and the FSJ Hospital. She was working there as a lab tech in

1969 when she met her future husband, Lawrence Gordon. They met and were married in Fort St John on New Years Eve in 1970. Joan and Lawrence were blessed to have three children, Heather, Mairi, and Wilferd. They lived in Oliver until 1980 when they moved to Heffley Creek where they raised their children and created life long friendships.

After Lawrence passed away in 2009, Joan moved to Calgary, to stay with her daughter Mairi. There she underwent extensive cancer treatment. Once being cleared medically she then settled in the 100 Mile House area in 2013 to live near her daughter Heather. She enjoyed her final years living at the Carefree Manor, an assisted living facility.

Joan was a loving, dedicated wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. She had a genuine love for family and friends. She delighted in visitors dropping in and having a visit. She wasn't happy unless everyone around her was fed and rested. She also excelled in genealogy. Every person she met had their names, birthdays, and relations recorded for posterity.

Joan also loved to take pictures. She was happiest when she had a camera in hand, recording events and the people in her life. She loved everyone unconditionally. She allowed people to be themselves. You didn't need to change to meet her approval. Joan loved her computer. It allowed her to keep in touch with friends and relatives at any time. It gave her joy to hear of news from far away and to share pictures of her grandchildren. She had also discovered and enjoyed using Facebook and sending E-cards.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Lawrence in 2009. She is survived by her children, Heather (Keith) Greenhalgh, Mairi Gordon, Wilferd (Rebecca) Gordon, her five grandchildren: Ben , Liam, Scarlett, Sadia, and Violet; her sister Karen Wall (Bill), Ellen Ostero, her brother Tom (Thelma) Ostero, and several nieces and nephews.
