July 26, 1942 - Jan. 24, 2012

Embraced by loving thoughts from family and friends all over the world, Hans Griese passed away peacefully in his home on January 24th, 2012.

Hans was born in Kiel, Germany, in 1942 as the kid brother to two older sisters.

He later worked at a brewery then managed a club restaurant catering to tennis and field hockey for many years.

Hans is survived by his sister Ulla Jürgensen and his nephew Andreas Haberland, both living with their families in Germany as well as many friends.

Friendships made then were still kept up and held close to heart. Loving life and living it to the fullest, enabled Hans to have many adventures; going places and meeting awesome friends.

Snow and ice drew Hans and his wife Monika to Canada in 1990. They and son Ingo immigrated to B.C. and settled at Fawn Lake. Operating his business selling firewood, Hans became known as “the woodman” supplying cut and split wood to folks all over the South Cariboo for almost two decades.

Hans’ passion over these past years was to explore the mountains in this region on a snowmobile. He was a member of the Interlakes Snowmobile Club and leaves many good memories behind.

Hans, his family and friends, send their sincere “heartfelt” thank you to Dr. Vesna Kovacevic, the staff at the 100 Mile Hospital, the crew at Community Care and Home Support Services and Hospice. This support has been incredible!

A gathering of friends to celebrate the life of Hans will be held on Sunday, February 19th, 2012 at the Iron Horse Pub in Lone Butte. Please see details on page A4 of this issue of the Free Press.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Hans’ memory to the South Cariboo Health Foundation, Bag 399, 100 Mile House, BC V0K 2E0.

Keep those home fires burning!
