October 1, 2023

In loving memory ~

With broken hearts, we sadly announce the passing of a special man, our father, and husband, Wayne Hayes on October 1, 2023.

Wayne was born in Glace Bay, N.S. He never missed an opportunity to return home to visit his family and always treasured the time he spent there.

After obtaining his forest technology diploma he joined the B.C. Forest Service in 100 Mile House in 1980. He worked in various departments until 2004. His time in Forest Health working with Don Wright was a highlight. Declining health caused him to take an early retirement, however he was still able to work as a private contractor in the woods and teamed up with another good friend Mel Dodge until further health issues required a move to Kamloops. In 2013 Wayne "won the lottery" by receiving a kidney transplant.

Wayne enjoyed the company of good friends, hockey, skiing, and a quiet lake to fish on.

He always encouraged his daughters to follow their dreams and supported them in sports, 4H, and was a wonderful "Horseshow Dad".

Wayne is predeceased by his parents Howard, and Millie Hayes, and his brothers Doug, and Kent Hayes.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 37 years, Wendy, his daughters Kelsey (Eric), and Zaria (Todd). The family is small, but he has special people in Nova Scotia- sister-in-law Barb, niece Amanda (Sean), Emma, Ryan, nephew Kent (Emir) as well as his cousins Gary, Corey, and Sheree.

No service by request, however a spreading of ashes will be done in 2024.

The family is grateful for the support of the Kidney Clinic team at R.I.H and especially his doctors: Dr. J. Connelly, and Dr. M. Hollman.

Please consider transplant donation, it truly is the gift of life.
