Weather and road conditions terrorize drivers

The weekly police report for the 100 Mile House and South Cariboo area.

100 Mile House RCMP responded to 64 calls for service during the past week. Some highlights are as follows:

 

Structure fire

On March 13, RCMP were called to a residential structure fire on the 5000 block of Upper Houseman Rd. The Forest Grove Fire Dept. were already on scene when the member arrived.

The residence was a total loss. The incident was deemed not suspicious. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Fire Dept. The occupant of the residence was not home at the time.

 

Vehicle rollover

On March 11, RCMP were called to a vehicle rollover on Canim Hendrix Lake Rd. near Sundman Rd. The two occupants of the vehicle were taken to 100 Mile House Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

It was determined that the vehicle was travelling east on Sundman Rd. when it lost control and ended up going off the road and rolling. Weather and road conditions were likely a factor in the incident.

 

Hit and run

On March 10, RCMP received a report of a hit and run at the intersection of Hwy. 97 and Horse Lake Rd.

A vehicle which was travelling west on Horse Lake Rd. and entered the intersection of Hwy. 97 on a green light.

Two vehicles which were travelling southbound cut the other vehicle off and turned left onto Horse Lake Rd. A vehicle described as a brown Toyota car with an "N" sign on the back ended up colliding with the vehicle travelling through the intersection.

The brown vehicle fled the scene. There were no injuries as a result of the incident.

 

No license

On March 8, RCMP members were patrolling in the area of Lac La Hache. A vehicle was observed on Timothy Lake Rd. and the driver was suspected to not have a valid drivers license. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and the male driver was found to not have an existing driver's license and was also a vehicle impound candidate.

The vehicle was also found to not have valid insurance.

The male was issued violation tickets for no drivers license, no insurance and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

 

Road check

On March 7, Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services conducted a joint road check with Ministry of Natural Resource officers on Exeter Station Rd., 108 Mile House, and Hwy. 24 near Lone Butte. Several logging trucks were checked for compliance with timber markings and other infractions.

Two violation tickets were issued for not complying with timber markings.

No other infractions were found or observed.

 

Damaged mailbox

On March 7, RCMP received a report of a damaged mailbox on the 5000 block of 103 Mile Lake Rd. The mailbox was found to have been likely hit by a vehicle and tinted vehicle glass was found around the mailbox.
