RCMP, Fire Rescue had a quiet Halloween

Emergency call-outs in town limited to an single-vehicle rollover

Police and fire rescue crews are reporting a relatively quiet Halloween this year.

100 Mile House RCMP Cpl. Ryder Birtwistle says other than a single motor vehicle incident (MVI) just after 10 p.m. on Oct. 31, officers had an uneventful day and night.

While speed was believed to be a factor, no alcohol or drugs were suspected, he adds.

A [young adult] was passing somebody else in the S-curves on Horse Lake Road, lost control and rolled the vehicle.

He was dressed like James Bond, but I guess he was unable to drive like James Bond.”

Birtwistle notes police attended the MVI along with Emergency Health Services and 100 Mile House Fire Rescue.

The male driver of the rolled vehicle appeared uninjured, but was transported to 100 Mile District General Hospital for a checkup, he adds.

Otherwise, RCMP responded to “mundane files for the most part” on Halloween with nothing too outstanding – which he partly attributes to proactive policing and the RCMP presence in town.

We had extra members on duty, and one of them was actually involved in handing out candy, and making sure Cariboo Trail was safe, where most of the kids were.

It was pretty good, and well received.”

He notes it may also have been a bit quieter due to Halloween being during the week this year.

Fire Rescue chief Roger Hollander says other than the aforementioned MVI his crews responded to, it was a peaceful Halloween for call-outs at the fire hall.

There were lots of kids in town, that’s for sure – out trick-or-treating. But nice and quiet for us; no incidents at all.”
