The Quesnel RCMP confirm they are investigating a robbery involving an imitation firearm in the city Saturday (Jan. 7).

A robber struck the downtown Husky, and the clerk who faced the assailant told the Quesnel Observer they carried on with business once police arrived and took control of the scene.

Sgt. Clay Kronebusch on Saturday around 3:40 p.m., Quesnel RCMP responded to a report of a robbery at a business in the 400 block of Front Street. A man disguised with a mask entered the store and produced what appeared to be a handgun, demanded money and threatened the cashier, said police.

”The man was wearing a black hoodie with a Harley Davidson print on the front, light coloured jogging pants, black shoes and a grey ski mask. The man fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.”

Mounties note the man was observed going behind the Safeway on Reid Street and removing his mask and hoodie before continuing south. Witnesses described the man as having grey hair. Police located the discarded hoodie and mask, along with an imitation firearm nearby.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are requesting anyone who was in the area that may have seen this man around the time of the robbery, or may have information related to this incident, including surveillance and dash cam footage, to please contact the Quesnel RCMP, said Kronebusch.

The clerk who experienced the robbery said it was their first time involved in a holdup. The details of the event were being kept undisclosed, for the purposes of the investigation, but the clerk said everyone is ok.

“It was me in the store. It was kinda scary. It was scary.”

The clerk alerted authorities as soon as it was safe to do so. The store was only closed a short while, though. “It was locked until the police were here,” but then the clerk opened the customer service window. The main doors remained locked as Mounties were on the scene several hours investigating the robbery.
