Man jailed on drugs and firearms charges

100 Mile RCMP report

100 Mile RCMP responded to 91 complaints and calls for service during the past week.

Behind bars

On Aug. 15, James Douglas Cote, 46, was sentenced in Williams Lake Supreme Court to charges that arose from a search warrant executed in the 300 block of Cedar Avenue in 100 Mile House in December 2009.

Cote received a nine-month jail sentence with a 10-year firearms prohibition for possession of cocaine for the purposes of trafficking.

He also received a three-year jail sentence for the unlawful possession of a restricted handgun with ammunition readily accessible.

The proximity of the residence to a daycare and a school were aggravating factors in the sentencing.

Suspect sought

On Aug. 12, 100 Mile RCMP received a report from a local business that a female, approximately 25 years old, entered the store and wandered around while the employee was cleaning.

When the employee came back to the counter, around $150 had been taken from the till.

The female suspect was described as wearing a light-coloured coat and dark denim Capri pants. She is described as being about five-foot-six with short, with dirty brown hair and facial acne.

Anyone having information about this theft is asked to call the 100 Mile RCMP at 250-395-2456, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Inconsiderate driving

On Aug. 10, 100 Mile RCMP and 100 Mile Traffic Services responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 97 at the south entrance to 103 Mile.

A Toyota Four Runner pulling a boat and trailer in the northbound lane slowed to avoid an animal. The vehicle behind moved over into the oncoming lane to avoid a collision.

The next vehicle, a red GMC pickup truck failed to slow in time and struck the boat trailer from behind. The impact from the collision pushed the boat into the ditch.

No one was injured as a result of this collision. The driver of the GMC pickup was issued a ticket for driving without consideration.

Double-check breath

On Aug. 8, 100 Mile Traffic Services received a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 97, just south of 100 Mile House.

The vehicle was located at a business in 100 Mile House and a vehicle check was conducted. The female driver from Surrey was determined to have consumed liquor.

An approved screening device was administered roadside and the result was a fail. The driver requested a second sample and the result was also a fail.

Her driver's licence was seized, she was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition, and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
