Parkside Gallery’s new show, “Three Wild Women and their Art” is a beautiful display of several mediums, evoking different elements and a deep love of the earth.
Anita Edwards is displaying pieces from her body of work called “Requiem for the Bees,” with a focus on disappearing bee populations. Her intricate paintings and multi-media pieces show the impacts of the creatures on the world.
Quille Farnham’s ceramic works bring a different aspect into play at the exhibit.
“It’s part of my experience with fire,” she says. Despite this, the pieces play to the earthiness of the show.
Cindy Smith works with fabric, displaying felted images and silk scarves imprinted with dyes made from her garden.
“Mine has a lot of textures and different feels,” says Smith. “Quille’s is definitely the same. Anita has colours and vibrancy with the bees. I think people enjoy seeing these different aspects.”
The three artists, while each distinct from each other, form a show filled with beauty and thoughtfulness.
“I think that all our materials have a kind of cohesiveness. They’re all a focus on Earth and its materials,” says Edwards.
The exhibit will open with a reception featuring classical guitar music at the Parkside Gallery on Friday, May 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. and run until June 24.
