Ghosts, aliens, Bigfoot, numerology and psychic communication - it’s a paranormal pundit’s dream come true.
Spaced Out Radio has teamed up with the Canadian Society of Questers to hold the first annual Cari-Boo Paracon conference from Sept. 28 to 30 at the Spruce Hill Resort & Spa.
Dave Scott, of Spaced Out Radio, said this area is ripe with paranormal activity, so we might as well profit from it.
“I would like to see this community stop being in the shadows and accept some of the strange and weird that happens here,” he said. “It’s ok to accept it and the people will eventually come.”
According to Scott, the South Cariboo is “a hotbed for UFO activity,” and has regular Bigfoot sightings.
Scott is also one of the organizers of the ghost walk held regularly at the 108 Heritage Site and said, “People don’t want to talk about it but everybody knows that this place is extremely haunted.”

Instead of trying to push these stories and experiences under the rug, Scott suggests we do what communities like Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and Roswell, New Mexico, have done. Accept the reported paranormal activity as part of their history and identity then throw massive festivals to celebrate it.
The Mothman Festival runs annually in Point Pleasant to commemorate sightings of the mythical creature from back in the 60s.
Roswell holds a large UFO convention because of an incident widely believed to have been a UFO crashing into a ranch back in 1947. This, of course, is not confirmed.
Both of these events draw a ton of tourism and revenue into their respective towns and Scott said we ought to follow suit.
“How about we just embrace the strange and weird that is our community and go along with it because there is a ton of tourist revenue that can be generated for years to come by the community getting involved with its weird and strange history.”

October is the anniversary of Miriam Delicado’s apparent alien abduction on the 99 Mile Hill. Scott called this “one of Canada’s best recorded alien abductions.”
It’s because of stories like Delicado’s plus ghost and UFO sightings shared on his radio show that Scott said they were able to book some of the best paranormal speakers in North America for Paracon.
“There is a massive community on this,” he said, adding, “this isn’t about talking about scary things. This is about embracing things that we may not know. Plus it’s good for the community.”
