Women’s Institute looking for some more members

Auxiliary AGM

Twelve members attended the Watch Lake/North Green Lake Volunteer Fire Department (WLNGLVFD) Auxiliary's annual general meeting, held at Shorty Horn Memorial Fire Hall (Hall 2), on March 4.

Events planned for this year include the Garage and Bake Sale on May 20 at the Sonny Johnson Memorial Fire Hall and the Firefighter's Appreciation BBQ on Sept. 9. The 2017 board of directors for the next two years are: Joice Smeltzer, president; Gisele Poliseno, vice-president; Marjorie Hogg, secretary; Barbara Thurston, treasurer; and directors Susan Nathane, Gladys Klenk and Janet Boyd. Bursary available

The 70 Mile and Area Community Fund Bursary is now available. A bursary of $300 is available for the continuing education or skills training of a resident of Watch Lake, Green Lake, Pressy Lake, 70 Mile House and surrounding areas.

Consideration will also be given to those who can show a close connection to this area.

To apply, send a letter of 300 to 500 words and include your goals, educational plans, and your connection to the area.

This bursary can be used by any student, young or old for further education or skill training. Proof of registration will be required.

 

Women's Institute

The Watch Lake & District Women's Institute (WLDWI) would really welcome any ladies that wish to join them at any time and you can call Ruth Kachur at 250-395-1163 or email her w.i._ruth@telus.net for more information.

Their meetings are the third Monday of every month, except July and August, at the Watch Lake Community Hall (WLCH) at 11:30 a.m.

They also contribute to the gymkhana's in July and August, so come out and see what they are all about. The next meeting is on March 20.

WLNGLVFD meets every other Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The next practice will be on March 28. New volunteers are always welcome. If you can find the time, come and join.

Watch Lake Green Lake Community Association (WLGLCA) next meeting will be on April 12 at the WLCH. Social at 7 p.m.; meeting commencing at 7:30 p.m.
