Watch Lake-North Green Lake VFD has graduates

Community news from the Watch Lake North Green Lake area

Watch Lake-North Green Lake Volunteer Fire Department (WJNGJVFD) chief Guy Poliseno congratulates Vito Burtini, Jim Klenk, Joanne Macaluso, Gisele Poliseno, Brian Thatcher, Candace Tyler and George Tyler who completed and graduated the Basic Fire Fighting Course.

Put on by the Justice Institute of British Columbia, they all received their certificates last month.

On May 15 and June 26, Dale Heggtveit, J. Macaluso, Wolfgang Pessler, G. Poliseno, Bob Smith, C. Tyler, G. Tyler and Bob White completed the Fire Attack Rural (Rookie) course at the 100 Mile House Emergency Services Training Centre:.

The chief would like to remind everyone who uses wood for heating to use dry, seasoned wood. This will eliminate the build up of creosote in the lining of the chimney and reduce the risk of chimney fires.

Remember to replace the battery in your smoke detector if you have not done so. Take time to make sure the openings on the smoke detector are not plugged with dust, cobwebs or paint.

This will help the electronic components to sound the alarm if there is smoke.

Hall decorating

This is a reminder the Watch Lake Green Lake Community Association will be decorating the community hall for the Christmas party Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. (new time).

If you have some time, please come out and join the fun. Bring a lunch. For more information, contact Eleanor Bulman at 250-456-2151.

Feral horses

If you have not seen the feral horses around the open field on North Green Lake Road for the past month or so, do not fret.

The mare is currently in a fenced acreage and is being fed and will be taken care of during the winter months. As for the colt, I am now the proud owner of this wonderful horse.

He was gelded last week and moved, while still sedated, to his temporary home until the corral on our property is completed. He is in good health and partially halter trained.

I will be working with him during the winter to gain his confidence and trust.

I would like to thank a special couple who helped me during this time period. They were very informative answering all my questions, teaching me, the greenhorn, how to handle him and being there when I needed them. Also, a big thank you to the horse whisperer, who in three hours was able to transform the colt from what he was to what he is now. I am so very grateful and only wished that I could have been there to watch him do his magic.

Last, but not least, thank you to the two wonderful gentlemen, one who transported the colt to his temporary home, and the second one for allowing him to be boarded in your barn. I really do not know what I would have done without all your assistance.

Special wishes

A bubbly birthday wish to Judy Cole who is celebrating this special day on Dec. 12.
