The 100 Mile House English as a Second Language group organized two ESL cafés in and around Forest Grove this summer.
The delicious potluck lunch at the Becker Lake Ranch on July 8 took place on a beautiful and hot day – mostly in the shade. This type of event is always very popular and it was well attended, with gracious host Armida Braendli making sure everything went smoothly.
On Aug. 12, Mary and Ken Bourne invited the ESL learners, tutors and organizers – Anita Price and Noreen Beer – to an outdoor gathering to discuss practical gardening in the South Cariboo. Ken’s garden and greenhouse were filled with delicious food of all colours, while Mary’s flowers were an absolute delight.
The hosts were very knowledgeable in all things gardening and planting – and not just in the Forest Grove area – while Noreen’s well-loved coffee and Anita’s "goodies" were delicious. This was another very successful occasion thoroughly enjoyed by all and of great interest to those present.
The next ESL Café to take place in Forest Grove will be on Nov. 11 to attend the Remembrance Day celebrations at the Legion.
Darts tournament
The next darts tournament will be a Legion fundraiser and take place on Sept. 27 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #261-Forest Grove – 4535 Canim-Hendrix Lake Rd.
Registration starts at 10 a.m. with the tournament commencing at 11 a.m.
This mixed-doubles event is open to everyone, so please join in and bring your partner.

The Forest Grove & District Recreation Society and the Forest Grove Legion invite all to join in a Spaghetti Dinner & Dance Fundraiser at the Forest Grove Community Hall on Oct. 4.
