Despite the short notice, about a dozen area residents showed up at the Green Lake Snowmobile Club (GLSC) clubhouse to greet Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart who visited with a couple of cheques in hand on March 25.

Tegart presented a $2,600 cheque to the South Green Lake Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), so firefighters will have one on board in the event of an emergency callout.

Half of the department's firefighters have all already been certified on AED and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training, and the other half will be trained in May.

Tegart also presented $7,920 to the GLSC to cover the cost of an archaeological study so the club can bring a natural gas line into the clubhouse and make other improvements.

Because the clubhouse property sits on leased Crown land, any development must be sent to the BC Archaeology Branch of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations to determine if a study is requested.

Although funding for the projects has been approved, the archaeological study must be completed before the work goes forward.

Local fire chief Peter McKie, who applied for the funding for both projects, says Tegart has always been helpful with providing funding for the fire department and the snowmobile club.

"She sees all of the volunteer work being put into the community and she is more than willing to come up with some money for the community, and we appreciate it."
