Interlakes is very proud of its young figure skaters 10-year-old Giorgia Lanzoni and 11-year-old Brittany Boyd. At the Jan. 22-23 Okanagan Regional Championships in West Kelowna, Brittany won a bronze, and Giorgia came home with her first ever medal, a silver. Brittany followed this up with two silver-medal performances at the Jan. 29-30 Cariboots & Blades in Williams Lake. Flying artist Bridge Lake Librarian Brenda Tillyer is delighted to have Chub Neufeld as guest artist in March's Community Showcase. A resident at both Kamloops and Lac des Roches, Chub has been building remote-controlled model planes since the '70s. He prefers using a kit, but also buys them ARF (almost ready to fly), and then adds the radio and the like. "It's a variable and most enjoyable hobby," he explains. "And with the way electronics have changed and become so small, I can do a lot of things that I couldn't do 20 or 30 years ago." Chub particularly likes Cessna and Beech planes, and is working on a Cessna 336 twin engine, with one engine on the front and one at the back that he started in the late '70s. "I've modified it several times during those years and it's slowly coming to the point of completion." Snowarama Sunday The Easter Seal Houses Snowarama Ride meets at 7659 Larson Rd., West Sheridan at l0 a.m., Feb. 27, and sledders will ride to Deka, Higgins for lunch, and Horse lakes, Atwood Meadows, and back to Sheridan. Donations for this worthy cause may be mailed to Stan Matthews, 7659 Larson Rd.; Lone Butte, B.C.; VOK 1Xl. Donations for $25 or more will receive tax-deductible receipts. Snowball tourney The annual Ryan Larson Snowball Tournament is at Interlakes Hall on March 5-6. Team entry fee is $200 and teams must have a minimum of 11 and maximum of 18 players, including at least four of the opposite sex. This tournament has been running for decades, but in 1996, its name was changed to honour then 13-year-old Ryan Larson who passed away from meningitis that January. Ryan's many brothers and cousins continue to field teams in the annual tournament. To register a team, call Tim Ruscheinsky at 250-593-2239.
