The 100 Mile House Elementary School kindergarten class and Our Place Pre-School & Childcare Centre children raised two peace poles in the Community Place Garden on June 24.

The poles were hand-painted and had several messages promoting peace and harmony.

The program was put on by the Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy and the South Cariboo Early Years Services.

Event organizer Kimberly Vance-Lundsbye came up with the plan to let the children create something meaningful and lasting.

The poles were painted in May and had two different messages written in multiple languages. The messages are “May peace prevail on Earth” and “We will take care of everyone on Earth.”

The messages are written in English, French, Shuswap, German, Tagalog, Afrikaans, Arabic and Swedish.
