New grant for the Watch Lake Community Hall

Community news happening around North Green and Watch Lake

A Green Grant was received for the Watch Lake Community Hall (WLCH) to replace the inefficient lighting in the Old Hall and the Log Hall sections.

The money comes from residual 2011 Cariboo Regional District Community Works funds.

There will be new T8 Fluorescents installed in the Old Hall ceiling and wall sconces for the walls. In the Log Hall, several country-style chandeliers will also be installed.

Both refrigerators will be replaced with coolers, one for the kitchen and another for the bar area. The Watch Lake Hall Operating Committee hopes much of this work will be done in time for the Community Christmas Party.

WL&DWI news

The Watch Lake & District Women's Institute (WL&DWI) held its annual general meeting on Nov. 16.

The new president is Helen Eagle, and she will be assisted by vice-president Lynda Krupp, recording secretary Judy Cole, treasurer Karin Forbes and director Joni Guenther.

Helen will continue to be the contact for hall rentals. Thanks to all who agreed to take on the tasks.

The Jan. 18 meeting will be the pyjama meeting, and everyone comes in their PJs. The February meeting will be the Adelaide Hoodless meeting, where they will be dressing in pioneer costumes and serving tea and goodies to those who want to visit them at that meeting.

On Nov. 12, a craft and bake sale was held at the WLCH. This was successful, even though the weather was not favourable.

There were several tables filled with a variety of beautiful crafts, wonderful baked goods and great tasting sweets. A big thank you goes to all who attended.

The four-day trip to Bellis Fair and the Big Box stores was terrific and the shopping was a huge success. The ladies had a great time and are anxious to go again as soon as they can.

And you know how it goes ... what happens in Washington State.

The WL&DWI is very much in need of new members. Please call Lynda at 250-456-7730 or Helen at 250-456-2413 for more information.

Party time

This is a friendly reminder the Watch Lake-Green Lake Community Association (WLGLCA) will be having its Christmas Party on Dec. 10 at the WLCH.

Doors open at 5 p.m., with the potluck dinner at 6. Please contact Judy Thatcher at 250-456-6031 or Janet Boyd at 250-456-7651 to register your children and let them know how many adults will be attending and what food item you will bring for the potluck dinner.

The registration cutoff is Dec. 3. There are no exceptions and children not registered by this date will not receive goodies.

A non-perishable food item donation to the food bank would be greatly appreciated.
