New community hall to be built

Community news happening around the 70 Mile House area

A meeting was held Feb. 11 to discuss options for improvements to the 70 Mile Community Hall.

Over 30 residents attended and the conclusion reached was that a new hall would be the best option to solve the current problems the hall faces.

Funding would come from several sources. The TNRD would provide funding from the gas tax revenue, and a grant would be provided by the Northern Development Initiative Trust.

The first step is drawing plans for a new hall and then soliciting quotes for construction. The new hall will be built adjacent to the existing building with a completion target of 2018.

Poker

The monthly poker tournament was held Feb. 11 with only seven players attending. The winners were: first Al Sidor, second Les Voth, third Eric Graham, and fourth Ken Freed.

The next tournament will be held Mar. 11 at Elaine's Poker Palace, 2489 N. Bonaparte Road. Play begins at 12 noon. For more info call Elaine at 250-706-8491.

Bingo

The usual suspects battled for the prize money, but the g-ball pot of over $380 remained unclaimed. The next bingo will be held Feb. 28 at SMAC. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and play starts at 7 p.m.
