Lone Butte Rocks event a huge success, now organizers can get on with the rest of their summer

Community news happening around the Horse Lake and Lone Butte area

With the great success of this year’s Lone Butte Rocks community event now behind us, we can all get on with the rest of our summer adventures.

I have been all over the place already this summer with trips to Calgary and Kelowna, a jaunt to Vancouver Island, a wet and chilly camping trip to Green Lake, and I’m just home from enjoying the Arts on the Fly Arts and Music festival in Horsefly.

Now, I need to stay home and get a few of my summer projects done at home. (At least that’s what my husband thinks I should do.)

Markets coming

There are a few shopping opportunities coming up in Lone Butte, as the community association and the Lone Butte Fire Department Auxiliary are holding craft and flea markets on July 27.

This is a double whammy opportunity for folks to shop for treasures or sell their own wares, as there is some available space both at the community and the fire department. Give Pat McKay a call at 250-395-2114 to book your table or outdoor spot at the community hall, or to give Chris Schmidt a call at 250-395-2006 for a location at the fire hall.

It will be fun.

Campfire caution

With the warm summer weather upon us, please remember to use extra caution when having a campfire.

Be sure to have an available water source at close hand in case a rogue spark escapes and to douse every last ember until its cool to the touch when wrapping your event up. It doesn’t take much to reignite a smouldering ember, which can ignite and cause major destruction before you even realize it has gotten away.

Please be wise with your fire. We all live here and none of us want to lose our homes to carelessness.

Birthday wishes

Belated birthday greetings go out to my daughter, Kelsey Schuurman, on June 30, as well as Guy Katona who also celebrated on the same day.

If you missed giving Heather Nelson a hug for her birthday, it’s not too late, as she celebrated on July 16, and Diane Sprague will be having another birthday cake on July 29.

Happy birthday wishes to all.

News wanted

If you have any summer guests who you would like to send greetings to in the article, or any special celebrations going on this summer, please feel free to give me a call so I can announce your event.
