Lone Butte Historical Association busy with several events

Community news happening around the Horse Lake and Lone Butte area

The Lone Butte Historical Association (LBHA) invites all area residents to its annual general meeting on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Alice Singleton Heritage House, which is across from the road from the Lone Butte General Store.

All members and non-members are welcome to come and find out what the association is all about.

Cleaned up

The LBHA thanks the 15 volunteers who showed up for the recent work bee at the Lone Butte Pioneer Cemetery.

They successfully cleaned the grounds, removed a few hazardous trees, replaced some rails and did some painting.

Everyone was rewarded with some lunch afterwards, and heartfelt thanks are extended to everyone who lent a helping hand.

Potluck supper and dance

The LBHA will be hosting a potluck supper and dance fundraiser on Oct. 19.

The organizers are thrilled to announce the ever popular Mark Allen will be making a special trip back from Alberta to perform for the event, which is predicted to sell out quickly. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with the potluck dinner at 6, and dancing at 7 p.m.

Get your $15 tickets at the Lone Butte General Store, Kelly's Whistlestop Cafe or Lone Butte Sporting Goods before they are sold out.

All proceeds raised will go toward the Alice Singleton Heritage House and the Defunbunker Fallout Shelter that will be opening next spring.

Yard sale

The Lone Butte Fire Department Auxiliary wishes to thank everyone who helped to make the recent yard sale a huge success.

Thanks to those who donated items to sell, rented a spot, helped with the set up, the sale, the cleanup and, of course, those who came to shop who gave generously to the cause.

Folks who would like to be part of this organization in any way can contact Chris Schmidt at 250-395-2006.

Flea market

Treasures will be waiting for new homes at the next Lone Butte flea market Sept. 28.

It will be held at the community hall and the doors will open at 9:30 a.m. So come early for the best selection.

If you are interested in booking a table or piece of real estate outside to sell your wares, please call Pat McKay at 250-395-2114.

O.U.T. meetings

Don't forget the gals of the Other Unusual Talents (O.U.T.) haven't slowed down all summer and continue to get together on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the community hall for coffee and chatting and crafting fun.

It's great way to meet some local ladies and have some laughs and snacks. Give Pat a call if you would like to know more at 250-395-2114.

Back to School

It's time ... but I won't say the S word out loud.

The children will be back on buses and back to the books after a great summer vacation.

Be sure to obey the school speed zones and be extra careful around the buses on the roads and children walking to and from school.

Mom and dad: enjoy a peaceful day at home, but fill the vehicle with gas and get the calenders out for the extracurricular activities that are soon to follow.

Celebrations

Belated birthday wishes go out to Cathie Katona who celebrated her special day with friends at one of Lone Butte's great little restaurants on Aug. 26, and birthday wishes go out to Bernd “Digger” Schmid from the Red Willow Guest Ranch.
