Ladies auxiliary putting together food hampers

Community news from the Lac la Hache area of the South Cariboo

The Lac la Hache Volunteer Fire Department (LLHVFD) Ladies Auxiliary is once again gratefully accepting non-expired non-perishable food donations to fill its Christmas Food Hampers.

Auxiliary members will also accept cash donations. If you have frozen foods to donate, please contact hamper drive spokesperson Diane Woods at 250-396-7301 to make arrangements.

Woods says the Ladies Auxiliary has been organizing this food drive for a number of years.

Folks can find donation boxes at the post office, LLH Foodmart, Pioneer Centre, LLH Community Hall, Red Crow and the elementary school. The local TOPS women are also collecting items at their Thursday meetings held at the community hall.

Contact Woods if you have any donations and if you know of anyone in need of a hamper. All inquiries are kept confidential.

The distribution date has not yet been set.

Pioneer Centre

Despite the bad weather, there were approximately 28 participants who had a fun time in the recent pool and crib tournament held at the Pioneer Centre.

Kit Senger and Paul Cowley took first in pool, while Agnes Rivet and Gary Young were second, and Horst Ellermann and Tony VanDenzel grabbed third place.

In the crib tournament, Lila Mickey took first, Mary Cowley captured second, Estelle Erickson finished third and Wendy Williams grabbed fourth place. All winners received a small cash prize.

Following the tournaments, players enjoyed a great lunch of chili, garlic bread and dessert, prepared by Estelle and Mary.

Meanwhile, everyone will be a bit warmer, as the centre recently received some brand new windows to keep in the heat this winter.

Meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month, starting at 10:30 a.m.

For more information or to become a member of the Pioneer Centre in Lac la Hache, contact Phil and Agnes Rivet at 250-396-7231.
