Lac la Hache readies for Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest has become a tradition in Lac la Hache, and on Oct. 15, the one day celebration returns to the Lac la Hache Community Hall.

Tickets are $25 and that includes a dinner of Schnitzel and spaetzle, traditional Bavarian-style music, dancing and games and an opportunity to tip a few beers.

The brew costs extra, but it will be straight from the keg, says Sylvia Gunther, a key organizer with the hosting Lac la Hache Community Club.

Yodeler Herb Keim from 100 Mile House will be there and the evening will include a yodeling contest. Live music by the Alpenland Musicians will have people up and dancing and singing along, Gunther says, and to get them going, demonstrations of traditional German dance will take place.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the party starts at 6. Tickets can be purchased in advance only at Alpine Deli, Larry McCrea Law Office, and from Sylvia or Rudi Gunther at 250-396-4791.

Discount motel rates are available for the night and free camping is being offered near the community hall.

This has been a popular event in the past and with only 160 tickets available, organizers are expecting a sellout.
