Interlakes’ Dee Eades passes away

Interlakes residents were shocked and deeply saddened to learn Dee Eades passed away unexpectedly, Jan. 10, one month before her 74th birthday.

In September 2007, Dee (then Hlavach) a longtime 100 Mile resident, married Deka’s Tony Eades and they moved to the Coast, while also keeping Tony’s home at Deka. But Dee was never happy on the Lower Mainland, and in fall 2009, she was “over the moon to come home” to 100 Mile, where the couple bought a beautiful new house.

An executive member of both Lions and Lionesses, Dee was very well known and respected for her unfailing good humour and go-get-it attitude. If something was to be done, Dee could be counted upon to do it.

Amongst her many accomplishments, Dee was a founding member of the South Cariboo Lioness Club; and of 100 Mile’s Alzheimer Support Group, which she started in 1991. At the Lions’ District level, she founded Pennies for Diabetes, which provides camperships on the Sunshine Coast for under-privileged diabetic children.

Dee will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. Tony is kept close in many hearts and prayers at this sad time, as are the couple’s extended families.

Services are being held on the Coast, but a celebration of Dee will be held at the Valley Room in 100 Mile House at 1 p.m. on Jan. 29.

Price corrected

It seems I misspoke in my last column and Deka’s ice-fishing derby tickets for Feb. 5 are actually $6 each.

They are available from any firefighter or at the weigh-in on the day of the event.

Ice-out raffle tickets will also be available. This is the inaugural raffle and buyers simply have to guess, to the second, when the ice will leave Deka Lake. The three closest guesses will win cash prizes.

Celebrations

This week’s birthday bubbly goes to Kitty Carroll, Elsie Clarkson, Joan Foster and Bill Jollymore, while congratulations go to Polly and Jack Black for their 53rd wedding anniversary on Jan. 25.
