The Horse Lake Elementary School Grade 7 students held a successful fundraising event to help pay for their much-anticipated ski trip to Mt. Timothy on Feb. 21. They organized the event, which included booths with nail painting, bowling, cupcake walk, fishpond, net shoot and more, themselves. Participants paid 50 cents a ticket and were rewarded with candies, stuffed animals, cupcakes or other exciting tokens. At the end of the day, they successfully earned $452.45 toward their outing. Other fundraising by the Parent Advisory Council includes T-shirt and hoodie sales, as well as cookbooks. Contact the school to purchase any of these items and support your local students. Everyone is also looking forward to spring break from March 13 to 27. Community association The community association is looking for some fresh ideas and new energy to put on local events and celebrations in the upcoming months. There is no need to join the executive or attend all of the meetings. What is required is a positive attitude and an interest in keeping some of our small-town activities going for the community to enjoy. If you can give a hand doing even one event a year, it all adds up. If you are interested in crafts, there are opportunities to help with craft sales in the summer months. If you like to cook, we can always use people to help with that. If you have construction skills, we definitely have a few things that you can help with. No matter what your skills or interests are, there is a place for you in the association. For more information, contact Tracey Lervik at 250-706-7411. OUT invitation The gals with the Other Unusual Talents (OUT) extend their invitation to anyone who would like to enjoy some coffee and snacks while working on their own project, or joining the group with one of their projects. For a minimal drop-in fee, it is a good time to meet some gals, and get out of the house while sharing some crafting ideas. Meeting from 10 a.m. to noonish on the first and third Thursdays at the community hall. This week found them folding origami, while their March project will be quilted potholders. Contact Tracey at 250-706-7411 for more information, or just drop in.
