New Year's Day found four-year-old Sarah Tinney and best friend Kim Baechmann

As we enter yet another year on the calendar it is, for many, a time to set some new goals and resolutions that will bring change and improvement to one's life.

I have never been one for resolutions, relying more upon my spontaneous, free spirit that moves me in different directions throughout the entire year. With hand gliding and white water rafting off my bucket list from last year's spontaneous adventures, I am looking toward a travelling escapade in the new year to a destination yet unknown (though somewhere warm sounds quite appealing).

Great party

The New Year was ushered in by children at Ann Armann’s ranch in true Cariboo style, with a good, old-fashioned outdoor skating and tobogganing party.

Many had fun donning their skates on the cleared ice patch on the lake, while others enjoyed sliding down the snowy hill on the first crisp, sunny day of the year.

Hot chocolate kept everyone warm while they gathered around the bonfire, and hot stew and chili were great fillers for everyone’s tummies on the cold afternoon.

Thanks go to Ann for throwing a great children’s skating party.

Game dinner

Speaking of parties, the Lone Butte Fish and Wildlife Association will be holding its annual game dinner on Feb. 16.

I don't have much more information at this time, but I have heard it is always a great time and a huge success for the organization. Folks can call Exeter Sporting Goods to find out more or purchase your tickets.

Great prizes

Another ticket you might want to purchase is a raffle ticket in support of your local Lone Butte-Horse Lake Community Association.

With all proceeds going toward the much-needed structural repairs on the hall foundation, this is an easy way to support the cause while giving you an opportunity to win some great prizes. Your $20 ticket gives folks an opportunity to win a pontoon boat complete with an electric motor and fly rod valued at $1,500. Prizes also include an original painting created by local artist Betty Lunn valued at $500, or a two-night get-away at Cariboo Bonanza Resort, including boat rental valued at $350.

Folks can pick up tickets at Lone Butte Sporting Goods store or from various association members. The draw will made in mid-February, so no time to waste, get your ticket now.

Heating up

Recently, the Cariboo Regional District approved substantial funding for improvements on the Lone Butte Community Hall's heating system.

This was great news to the association members who have been advocating for this for some time. With the old system being quite outdated and inefficient, everyone is looking forward to this much-needed improvement to be made in the near future.

OUT back in

Ladies, don't forget the Other Unusual Talents (OUT) group will be meeting on Jan. 22 instead of the regular third Tuesday of the month.

The meetings are always fun and everyone is welcome. Come out and make some new friends for the new year. Give Pat McKay a call to learn more at 250-395-2114.
