HalloweenTown is fun for every member of the family.

There will be plenty of ghosts and goblins roaming around the South Cariboo Rec. Centre on Oct. 31.

The Fifth Annual HalloweenTown is going to be a family fun night, Canlan general manager Josh Dickerson says, adding the event is co-hosted by Canlan and the South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce (SCCC).

"This is based on the family, on the community coming together and having a good time.

"We've enjoyed a successful and fun evening for the past four years, and we are expecting the same this year."

HalloweenTown will have something for everyone, from toddlers to senior citizens and most of it is free of charge.

The freaky festivities go from 5 to 9 p.m. Enjoy hot chocolate provided as a fundraiser by the 100 Mile Figure Skating Club, a free skating party, a movie on the big screen, children can get a sticker, a bag of candies, and enjoy the fireworks show.

The free family skate is happening from 6 to 9 p.m., says Dickerson.

"We'll have some of the ice coned off for kids to paint on the ice, they'll have markers and we are going to give out prizes for different age categories."

A family friendly Halloween movie will be playing on the big screen during the skate, Dickerson says, adding that during the evening

there will be prizes given out for best costumes.

For the second year, Kal Tire has sponsored the free skate, and the treats given out are through donations from Save-On-Foods and Safeway, says Dickerson.

"Bev Lund and the Chamber did a great job in

contributing to the fireworks show."

The chamber will have a bonfire by the marsh for the public to enjoy, Dickerson adds.

"We'll have a $7,000 display of fireworks; it'll be spectacular."

A Halloween colouring contest will run in the 100 Mile House Free Press in the two weeks leading up to the big day and submissions and winners will be posted at the party.

The haunted house has traditionally been looked after by the grad class of Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School (PSO), Dickerson says,

adding it is a fundraiser for their prom.

This year's theme is "Insane Asylum," says PSO grad committee co-chair Melissa Lauchli.

The doors to the haunted house open at 5 p.m., and there is a $2 admission fee.

"It's going to be insane. We'll have a cafeteria room where people can touch eyeballs; a operation room with doctors operating on patients; and a kids room where all the "crazy kids" are."

Lauchli doesn't want to give too much away, but there will be 48 students acting in the asylum, and a "ton of volunteers," including parents.

"It's great to have the parents help. We just have the Monday to set up and a lot of parents will be there starting at 9 a.m. Some students will be able to leave school at noon to go over to help, too."

This is one of the biggest fundraisers the PSO grads hold, and the proceeds go towards their prom costs.

However, Lauchli notes that this year, the committee is

going to try to cut costs for the upcoming prom.
