Pies and treasures went out the door in record time

The South Green Lake Volunteer Fire Department (SGLVFD) Ladies Auxiliary’s Garage and Bake Sale on May 21 was a great success.

The day started out with a little rain and was cool, but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd that gathered for the annual event.

The lineup for the pies was long, but this year, most customers were able to get what they wanted. The treasures flew out of the hall so quickly that we where able to start closing down early.

Some of the winners for the raffles included Mick Elash, Party Bullet; wine basket, Louise Craigg; children's basket, Joan Goosen; and Ducks Unlimited fleece, Glenys McFarlane.

The Ladies Auxiliary would like to thank all the volunteers who donated time and, of course, everyone who came out to buy a pie or treasure. Without you, it would not be the success that it is.

There are a few blueberry pies left, so if you would like to purchase one, contact someone from the fire department and they will arrange to get you one. Cost is $8.

We will also be selling them at Community Day if there are any left.

AGM slated

Mark your calendars, the annual general meeting for the SGLVFD will be held July 2 at 10 a.m. at the Snowmobile Club at 176 Green Lake South Rd.

Come out and see what is happening with your fire department and the challenges that a rural community faces.

Community Day

Community Day will be held on the Saturday of the August long weekend.

Come down to the fire hall, have a snack, see the trucks and visit with neighbours.

Trees trimmed

The trees are being cut or trimmed along Green Lake South Road.

BC Hydro is clearing the right-of-way under the power lines to prevent future power outages and potential fires hazards due to trees falling on the lines.
