It was a busy day for those at Loaves & Fishes Outreach (LFO) on Exeter Truck Road next to Bethel Chapel on June 15, as they were putting more than 100 food hampers together.
The hampers contain flour, coffee, sugar, pasta and other essential items for families in need.
There is a quote from Mark 6:37-4 on wall inside the LFO about when Jesus broke loaves and fishes for his disciples to give to the people. It is this quote that the LFO members strive for, says Bev Hodge.
“We give people what we can. We have great support from the community who help us put these together.”
Hodge, Roslyn Heavens, and Natasha Warburton were filling sugar and flour bags as people came in to pick up hampers.
The LFO program provides a hamper once a month to those in need – low-income families, pensioners with additional bread and muffins going to The Youth Zone, Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre,100 Mile House & District Women's Centre Society
The food is donated by the community either as food or cash. There are some community members who donate fresh vegetables.
Bill Ostoforoff and his family have been receiving hampers for three years and he is extremely thankful.
“It really helps and it's always great to see these ladies. They always have a smile on their faces and are very friendly.”

On page A3 of the June 16 edition of the 100 Mile House Free Press, it was incorrectly stated the 100 Mile House Food Bank does not work its regular hours during the summer.
The Food Bank is open on the first and third Tuesday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the summer.
