Ten members of the South Green Lake Volunteer Fire Department successfully completed the Canada Safety Council's Snowmobile Operators Course put on by local chief instructor Bill Hinde earlier this month.

The course, which takes between 5.5 and eight hours to complete, provided the applicants with safety awareness and training, including snowmobile laws, parts identification and pre-ride inspection, safe operating procedures, survival and ethics.

Certification allows the firefighters to participate in ground searches that require snowmobiles and gives them a 10 per cent discount on their insurance.
